Well Dressed Men in Real Estate – Steve Mora

10/25/2019

I have really enjoyed these style interviews! There are many common style themes with all these style guys but love how they put their own twist on their look, how they dress and why.  Here is my latest interview.  Please meet Steve Mora. I was really impressed with his style when he came into my shop and knew I had to interview him. Enjoy!!

  1. Tell me about yourself and what do you broker?

First, Mary, thank you for the opportunity to discuss real estate and style. After 15 years in the real estate industry, I’m currently CEO of Dog Park Properties, a niche home search platform for dog lovers seeking properties within dog-friendly neighborhoods, a proud member of Realty One Group’s Budwig Team where I represent both buyers and sellers, and a home remodeler where I fix and flip single and multi-unit family homes.

Competitive by nature, I was a tennis professional and Director of the Arizona Tennis Association before pivoting into real estate in 2005. During the downturn in the housing market in 2008, I maintained an active business. Since 2012, I’ve represented members of the Phoenix Suns’ athletic and professional staff as well as other professional athletes.

  1. Can you talk about your current style and how you dress for clients and/or meetings?

Stevie Mora kickass-ness ? which means looking my best in any situation. My day-to-day look blends tailored professional pieces with casual wear while if it’s a high profile meeting, I like to wear Hugo Boss red label suits which fit my body well.

  1. Do you have a work uniform? Do you tend to buy/wear the same color suits, jackets, shirts, etc?  or no?

Yes; and most days include wardrobe changes! If I’m remodeling a property, I can go from athleisure in the morning (Lululemon is a fave) to business professional in the afternoon. I tend to buy the same color items because I’ve learned which colors work best on my skin tone and I like to wear colors that make me feel good. I feel that there are colors that help me manifest success and that gives me more confidence which is important in real estate.

  1. What advice do you have for anyone getting into real estate in regard to their wardrobe.  What they should wear? Avoid wearing?

Be prepared to dress for any occasion by keeping a change of clothes in your vehicle! You never know what to expect in real estate; it’s the joy of the business.  While there are times to suit up there are plenty of times when dressy-casual/athleisure will work. But always, always, avoid wearing dirty shoes.

  1. What are 5 thing every man in your industry should have in his wardrobe?
  • Custom navy blue suit
  • Statement belt
  • Custom-fitted long sleeve dress shirts
  • Golf shirts
  • Clean shoes
  1. Do you ever dress casual and if so, for what occasions? What are some casual looks you like to wear?

I believe in casual Fridays. I enjoy wearing fitted golf shirts and slacks with nice tennis shoes or loafers. I like to try new styles. Most recently, I bought several new golf shirts from a company called Greyson from Q. Contrary Check them out here.

  1. How do you dress differently when the temperature gets so warm here in Phoenix? Do you keep an extra shirt at the office if you sweat? Wear more linen fabrics?

Linen wrinkles too much; so that’s a no. Summers are a lot more casual in Phoenix; even in real estate. But, more important than what to wear (is there such a thing?!) is where to go when the summer heat breaks me…and that’s my pool.

If I’m between client appointments in the summer, I’ll stop by my house for a dip in the pool wearing my Tonlen’s Men Swimwear that my wife discovered on Amazon. Their swimwear is stylish, sophisticated and way more interesting than traditional board shorts.

  1. What is your go to look when closing a big deal?

Custom Hugo Boss extra trim navy suit with either a white or baby blue dress shirt. I also like to wear my Silver and Sage beaded bracelet I’ve had for 8 years.

  1. Any advice or style tips you would like to share?

In real estate, it’s location, location, location. In men’s style, it’s fit, fit, fit. I think it’s important to have a good tailor; someone who knows your body type who can make small adjustments to garments for a big visual impact. Style is in the details and it is a massive part of my personal brand. Shout out to Mary Zarob and the work done and the styles sold at Q. Contrary for keeping me looking sharp.
